Partnership With Engage Empower Educate Initiative (EEEI): Empowering Girls In Tech In The SHETECH Program
As part of our goals to empower girls in tech, we have formed a partnership with Engage Empower Educate Initiative (EEEI) in their efforts to train and empower girls in tech. This initiative is known as SHETECH and aims at training participants to become full-fledged Android and iOS developers.
Encouraging ladies in tech is an important and necessary step towards promoting diversity and inclusivity in the technology industry. Unfortunately, women have historically been underrepresented in the field, and there are still many barriers and challenges that they face. However, with the right support and encouragement, women can overcome these obstacles and thrive in tech careers.
One of the biggest barriers that girls in tech face is a lack of visible role models. Many girls may not know other women who work in tech or may not have had the opportunity to learn from mentors in the field. This can make it difficult for them to imagine themselves pursuing a career in tech, or to believe that they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. To encourage more girls to enter the tech industry, it is our goal to empower more girls to kick start their career in the tech field.
Another challenge that girls in tech may face is the lack of support and mentorship from their colleagues and managers. Tech can be a competitive and fast-paced environment, and women may feel that they are not being given the same opportunities or support as their male counterparts. To encourage more girls to enter the tech industry, we make it important to create a culture of support and inclusivity, and to provide the tools for girls to develop their skills and knowledge.
Our involvement in the Shetech Program started with training in the fundamentals of the JavaScript programming language. Here they learnt about key features like data types, variables, objects, methods, object-oriented programming with javaScript, etc. They also learnt to build User Interfaces using the React and React Native Framework. As a final milestone project during the course of our program with Shetech, the students are building a personal finance management mobile application for the Android and iOS platforms.
